Julie Hagan Bloch
Julie Hagan Bloch has made her mark as a phenomenal carver in the world of rubber stamps. Her cover art, Swimming in Colors, confirms her expertise in carving. "I was contemplating what would be my ideal fantasy vacation. There was more to it than what ended up being depicted on the cover," she explained. "I made up the cover based on images. . .that appealed to me. This scene might be an Arizona type of thing, except that I don't recall ever having seen those kinds of rock formations directly in water. . I just like the shapes and colors." The five different blocks Julie carved for the cover are shown in The Cover Artist feature in this issue. She describes tools she uses for carving, her favorite carving medium and some techniques to consider with multi-block printing. Her self portrait, shown here, is also a multi-block print. |
