Themes & Deadlines
Valentine's
Day is the right time to say "Be Mine." The first theme for Jan./Feb. 2009
is Love Letters. Send us your stamped expressions of affection. Think
pink, red, and lacy white. The second theme is Kings and Queens. Elizabeth,
Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and Marie Antoinette are all fair game. Think royally.
Have fun. Deadline for both themes: August 20, 2008.
What do lipstick, fire hydrants
and toenails have in common? They're often red. The first theme for March/April
2009 is Seeing Red. Any subject will be fine, as long as the color
red is included. Make us blush. The second theme for that issue is How
the West Was Stamped, but we already have oodles of great scenic artwork
for that issue (as well as a cover), so please just send us something scarlet,
crimson or rosy. Deadline for Seeing Red: October 20, 2008.
Looking further ahead, the
first theme for May/June, 2009, is Rubber Earth. We expect to see
a lot of our wild animal friends in these cards. Pick your favorite continent
or ecosystem and bring it to life! The second theme is TV Challenge.
Place a TV set in your scene or collage or stamp something related to a TV
show (reality or otherwise). We already have a great Rubber Earth cover
for this issue. Deadline for both themes: December 26, 2008.
If you're hankering to work
on a cover, consider looking way ahead to our special Dragons and Unicorns
issue, which is planned for July/August 2009. The deadline will be February
20, 2009. Cover artists receive $200.
General Guidelines
All submissions should
have some rubber stamp imagery. With each submission, please list stamp
credits. Instructions are not needed with the submission.
Always include your name,
postal address and telephone number or e-mail address on the back of
each submission. Submissions can be original artwork, slides, photographs,
color photocopies or color prints.
We welcome artwork on issue
themes. There are generally two themes per issue. (See below for specific
information on theme submissions.)
We also welcome artwork
not on a specific theme. These pieces can appear in the various columns
within each issue. Also, when theme artwork isn't returned right away,
that means we're considering it for a future issue, either a second centerfold
or for one of the columns.
Theme Art
We prefer submissions no
larger than 5 inches by 6-1/2 inches in size. All submissions are subject
to reduction. Theme artwork can include highly dimensional art or 3-D
pieces.
Submit up to four entries
per theme. Artwork is returned when accompanied by an SASE. If submitting
for more than one theme, please include an SASE for each theme-this helps
us keep track of everything. Always include your name and postal address
and telephone number or e-mail address on the back of all your artwork.
Cover Art - Cover
artists receive $200. Cover submissions can be:
1) 8-5/8 inches wide by
11-1/4 inches high. This size assumes the artwork fills the whole cover.
About 1/4 inch will be trimmed off each edge. Please leave a blank space
somewhere for information about what's inside the issue. Also, try not
to put any of your favorite images in one of the bottom corners of the cover,
where a store pricing symbol will be placed.
2) 8-5/8 inches wide by
10-1/2 inches high. This size fills the cover except for a 3/4 inch strip
across the top for information about what's inside the issue. About
1/4 inch will be trimmed from each edge. Again, try not to put any cool
images in one of the bottom corners, where the store pricing symbol will
be placed. (Remember that about 1.5 inches of the page will be overlaid
with our logo.)
